ENV 4025 - Bedrock to Biomes 4 cr
This course examines large-scale factors that determine where groups of living things are located. Instruction focuses on how geologic processes that create vertical relief such as mountains and canyons also drive predictable biotic patterns across elevations. Patterns found in the Northeast are used as a basis to understand patterns in the West. The course meets once a week during the semester and includes a week-long field trip to primitive areas in either Arizona, Washington, or another western state. Hiking on rugged terrain is required. The laboratory fee covers travel, food, and lodging costs.
