Program Description

Vermont State University’s Certificate in Restorative Practices is a 14-15 credit program designed for students to gain broad knowledge about restorative justice and restorative justice practices within a variety of contexts.  Restorative practices are being used in a variety of settings such as K-12 education, diversity and equity work, higher education residential life, community justice centers, heatlhcare settings, and workplace/human resources.

Students working or seeking employment in human services, youth justice, education, advocacy, community organizing, and criminal-legal arenas will find this certificate beneficial.

Program Outcomes

1. Students will analyze and evaluate the history, philosophy, and theory of the restorative justice paradigm and movement.

2. Students will identify and examine restorative practices used in community, criminal justice, education, and social service contexts.

3. Students will experience being in restorative circle processes.

4. Students will develop specific skill sets in restorative facilitation.

5. Students will facilitate mock restorative processes.
