Electronic control of mechanical systems, system design considerations and the analysis and diagnosis of system failures are examined through in the curriculum. All mechanical systems are covered: electrical, electronic, and hydraulic systems maintenance, diagnosis, and repair are emphasized. Equal time is given to classroom instruction and hand-on laboratory practical experience. Students are exposed to agricultural equipment, earth-moving equipment, and heavy-duty trucks, including Vermont State University farm equipment. Students must possess their own set of hand tools for use in the laboratory and summer internship courses.
The Diesel Technology curriculum uses the National Technician’s Education Foundation (NATEF) and Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) diesel task mastery specifications to assess successful learning outcomes.
