Program Description
The Health & Wellness Coaching minor provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage in health and wellness coaching, including coaching process, coaching skills, foundational health and wellness concepts, and legal and ethical considerations. This minor would also benefit students pursuing careers in other health and wellness professions, including healthcare professions, personal training, corporate health and wellness, and community health education. Vermont State University’s Health & Wellness Coaching Program is an Approved Health and Wellness Coach Training & Education Program by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC). Graduates of this program* are eligible to apply for the HWC Certifying Examination to become National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coaches (National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching).
*For AHS2480, AHS4025, AHS4110, and AHS4840, course sections offered through VTSU-Online (with an “SO” designator) do not satisfy the requirements of the NBHWC-Approved Health & Wellness Program.
Program Outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of foundational health and wellness concepts as they related to health, illness, and disease.
- Integrate knowledge of health status and disease risk factors into client-led interventions to promote wellness and mitigate disease in diverse populations.
