Program Description
Vermont State University’s Bachelor of Science in Construction Management program transforms construction students into construction leaders. It is a management program, not a trade program, though understanding and appreciating the importance of the trades is one of the learning outcomes.
There are very strong connections with the construction industry, including alumni who are working at companies locally in Vermont as well as across the country. Relationships, Relevance, and Rigor are the main focus in the program and have resulted in graduates who are career-ready in a high- demand profession.
Students participate in a paid internship after their first year. Experience, mentoring, and practicing construction leadership are integral to the internship and to student success. In their senior year of the BS degree program, students participate in the Associated School of Construction (ASC) contest along with most of the Construction Management schools from New York and New England. This contest provides students the opportunity to perform office-style leadership and management tasks for a real-world construction project. Students gain tremendous skills and confidence from this experience that are useful early in their careers.
Students graduating from this program have remarkable opportunities; they work on and have leadership roles on some of the largest and most important construction projects in Vermont and nationally. Conversely, some students choose to work for themselves or family businesses; their career path is varied.
The physical location of the Construction Management program contains areas designed for conferences, presentations, concrete testing, and group projects. The faculty are dedicated to face-to-face instruction, personalized coaching, and active participation.
