Program Description
Vermont State University’s Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems program provides a broad foundation in computing skills necessary for workplace needs in both the software development and information technology industries. Students learn through an experiential approach supplementing lectures and discussion with hands-on labs. Required courses outside of the department, including Mathematics and Business, support interdisciplinary connections.
The program culminates in an internship and a capstone course. Graduates may seek employment as computer programmers, software engineers, or information technology professionals.
Program Outcomes

Design and develop websites and/or related web applications.

Design, build, and utilize databases in software solutions.

Demonstrate fluency in multiple high-level programming languages.

Create software solutions using the object-oriented paradigm.

Evaluate the information technology needs of an organization; including troubleshooting technical issues, maintaining the infrastructure, storing data, and securing proprietary information.
