ENV 3115 - Soils and Environmental Processes 4 cr
Soil is a critical component of every terrestrial ecosystem and a key regulator of food production, carbon sequestration, air and water quality, and a source of immense biodiversity. During this course we will first study the physical and chemical weathering and erosion processes that create the mineral components of soils and will then examine the biological components of soils and their influence on earth processes. We will explore surface processes such as running water and mass wasting (e.g., landslides) and biological processes including soil food webs, microbial ecology, and plant-soil interactions. Lecture will be offered in-person and synchronously remote. Lab will be in-person on each campus when weather permits.
3 hours of lecture, 3 hours of lab
Prerequisites: GEY 1030 Offered: Spring, odd years There is a fee associate with this course.
