Program Description 

Vermont State University’s new Bachelor of Arts in Performance, Arts, and Technology prepares you to succeed in the world of professional theater and performing arts. This major includes courses in several disciplines including traditional acting and music, digital and audio storytelling, and humanities.  

This program is the first degree in the country to place multi-disciplinary collaboration at the heart of its mission. You won’t just graduate as a performer or a designer - you will graduate as an artist ready to work on your own and other’s shows and installations in today’s contemporary world. Faculty with deep experience in all aspects of the performing arts will guide your development in the field.  

Polaris Performance Company, our main-stage theater troupe, is committed to consent-based practices and lifting the diverse voices of our student body by focusing on the creation of new works.  

To find your direction, you will focus on a concentration in dance, music, theatre/musical theatre, or social justice and activism.  

Program Outcomes 

  1. Students will demonstrate the communication skills required for leadership and collaboration in the performing arts.  

  1. Students will integrate an understanding of historical moments that had an impact on performance art globally and domestically into their own work.  

  1. Students will analyze, critique, and interpret classical and contemporary performance pieces related to their concentration.  

  1. Students will manage a long-term project relevant to their concentration.  

  1. Students will demonstrate the professional skills necessary for a successful career in the performing arts.

To obtain a degree, students must fulfill the major-specific requirements as well as satisfy all other Degree Requirements  including the General Education Requirements .
