Manufacturing Engineering Technology (BS.MET)

Program Description 

Vermont State University’s Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering Technology program prepares students for a career applying technical knowledge and leadership skills to contribute to manufacturing competitiveness through process and systems design, operations, quality, continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and sustainability.  Graduates are prepared to employ strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills and participate productively on professional teams and to develop and continuously improve in a career in manufacturing or a related field.  

The program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org 

Program Outcomes 

  1. Apply knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline. 

  1. Design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline. 

  1. Apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly defined technical and non-technical environments and identify and use appropriate technical literature. 

  1. Conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and analyze and interpret results to improve processes. 

  1. Function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams. 

Program Electives


40 credits required.

  • 4 credits of lab-based Science (PHY, BIO, CHE) 
  • 12 credits of courses with BUS prefix (6 credits minimum at the 3000+ level).  Students may choose these (or use transfer credits for equivalent courses) 
  • 24 credits of engineering, science, or management courses (with prefixes ARE, EET, MEC, CET, CIS, BIO, PHY, CHE, or BUS).  12 credits minimum at the 2000+ level.  Students may choose these (or use transfer credits for equivalent courses).

To obtain a degree, students must fulfill the major-specific requirements as well as satisfy all other Degree Requirements  including the General Education Requirements .
