Program Description
Vermont State University’s Bachelor of Arts in History offers students the opportunity to acquire insights into the ideas and events that shaped the beliefs, desires, practices, and institutions of the people of earlier societies and therefore to learn much about the contemporary world.
Program Outcomes

Demonstrate advanced knowledge of a variety of historical events, ideas and individuals that have shaped the world through time.

Demonstrate the ability to read scholarly literature effectively, and apply the knowledge gained from that to an understanding of economic, political, social, cultural and religious historical forces.

Demonstrate the ability to critically analyze, interpret and synthesize primary historical materials effectively, identifying purpose and point of view.

Demonstrate an understanding of major historiographical ideas and interpretations, and the ability to apply those ideas to both secondary literature and the student’s own research.

Propose, research, write, and publicly present a substantial research paper that uses authentic and properly cited historical research to develop an original and historically significant thesis.
