Program Description

Vermont State University’s Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology & Human Services is designed for students who both enjoy working with people and making a difference in their lives and communities.  The program uniquely blends psychology and human services, preparing students for diverse careers or graduate studies upon graduation. With a focus on hands-on experience, students complete two practicums, starting as early as their sophomore year. Faculty collaborate with individuals to identify suitable placements.

The department partners with numerous human service agencies and schools in the Northeast Kingdom, as well as other regions in Vermont and New Hampshire, offering a wide array of internship opportunities. Experiential learning is reinforced in courses that foster personal growth, professional skill development, and community service. Emphasizing social justice and diversity, the Applied Psychology & Human Services program integrates these values into most courses.

With a strong foundation in psychological and developmental theory, graduates possess the professional skills to provide vital social services and excel in various roles or graduate programs. Program alumni have pursued diverse careers and graduate studies in fields such as psychology, social work, and mental health counseling.

In addition, qualified students can participate in our Master's in Mental Health Counseling bridge program, taking up to three graduate courses during their senior year to expedite their VTSU graduate degree.
