Information Technology (BS.CIT)


Program Description 

Vermont State University’s Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program provides the student with the breadth of areas used in the modern IT infrastructure that underlies all organizations today, including system administration, networking, security, programming and web development. Students have a wide range of technical electives to explore further the areas that interest them and will help them satisfy their long term aspirations.

Program Outcomes 

  1. Understand fundamental programming concepts and write simple programs to help maintain systems  

  1. Develop and maintain static and simple dynamic web pages, including those connected to databases  

  1. Install, monitor, and maintain simple computer networks  

  1. Administer systems to provide shared services, including those that employ UNIX-based 
operations systems  

  1. Understand the historical and social context of information technology   

  1. Use relational databases to solve information management problems  

  1. Apply best security practices to safeguard information systems  

  1. Apply significant technical knowledge in their field of study to solve technical problems  

  1. Work effectively as a member of a team to design, develop, and implement solutions to 
technical problems  

  1. Make ethical professional decisions in their careers
