Social Justice Certificate (CT.SJC)

The Certificate in Social Justice offers students educational opportunities to explore questions of equity, social rights, and collective action as that relates to intersectional and interdisciplinary issues.  Social justice is an expansive term that enables inquiry into community and society; history; economy; dis/ability; opportunity and accessibility; health, illness, and wellness; the environment; food and nutrition; wealth and poverty (and the distribution of and access to resources); power and privilege; education; employment; housing; and healthcare. It explores theoretical and practical questions of economic, political, and social rights through a variety of lenses.

Outcomes

  1. Build knowledge of classical and contemporary theories of justice and explore interrelated topics, such as human rights, affirmative action, income distribution, and the role of markets.
  2. Develop an understanding of the health and wellness needs of all peoples within a community system.
  3. Gain insight into policy and social justice issues that drive human actions and responses to global challenges, such as the environment, poverty, and development.
  4. Understand principles of social justice as they relate to topics such as education, government, health, media, and religion.
