The Cinema Studies minor invites exploration of film from multiple perspectives: as entertainment, self-expression, documentation, political tool, and cultural commodity. Understanding film as a complex system of technical and artistic choices, students will have the opportunity to study various world cinema movements and film genres, and examine issues surrounding race, gender, and representation. In addition to writing traditional essays, students engage in cutting-edge digital humanities work through the creation of audiovisual essays. Their scholarly contributions extend to presentations at academic conferences, publication in esteemed journals, participation in international film festivals, and advancement to prestigious graduate programs.
