Description
The School Health Education Minor focuses on educating students on how to promote and maintain the health and well-being of children and adolescents in school environments. The School Health Education Minor provides students with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to work in school health settings, including roles like school health coordinator, health educator, or wellness specialist. The minor prepares students to address various health issues that affect students, teachers, and school staff, such as nutrition, mental health, physical fitness, safety, and disease prevention.
This minor complements a degree in physical education, nursing, psychology, education, and sociolgy. Through coursework and practical experience, students gain an understanding of school policies, health programs, and strategies that can be implemented to improve overall school health.
VTSU Physical Education Majors (BS.PED.ESE) are strongly encouraged to complete the School Health Education Minor as a means of completing a second endorsement in heath education.
