The writing minor empowers students to develop versatile skills in composition, creative expression, and professional communication. Through coursework in a range of writing genres-including creative, academic, and technical writing– students gain proficiency in crafting effective and engaging texts for diverse audiences and purposes.

Upon completion of this minor, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in crafting clear, persuasive, and purposeful written texts across various genres, including academic, professional, and creative writing.
- Analyze and apply rhetorical strategies to tailor writing effectively for diverse audiences, contexts, and purposes.
- Critically evaluate and revise written work through iterative drafting processes, incorporating feedback to improve coherence, style, and effectiveness.
- Employ research skills to integrate credible sources thoughtfully and ethically, supporting original arguments and ideas in written form.

Requirements for the minor (18 credits)
Additional writing courses from other programs, e.g. BFA Creative Writing, Communications, Business Writing, may be selected with departmental approval. Total credits for minor: 18
