The purpose of the Adventure Recreation Minor is to develop technical outdoor skills and knowledge that can be applied to a variety of educational, professional and personal settings. The minor highlights backcountry leadership, risk management, and personal growth through an authentic and experiential based curriculum. The minor promotes sustainable and risk appropriate backcountry endeavors. These offerings prepare participants through an experience that encompasses life long skills and are marketable in a broad range of employment sectors.
Outcomes
- To develop a skill set of outdoor technical skills that are both professional and stand up to the industry standard.
- Promote lifelong learners who have the motivation to enhance their own skill set and seek their own outdoor experiences.
- To continually reduce unnecessary risk for participants and those that may fall under their charge in the future.
- Highlight the exposure of students and future participants to practices that enhance and validate life experiences, objectives and personal identity.
- Foster an appreciation and understanding of the natural world while developing a group and individual sense of stewardship.
- Grow future leaders through technical knowledge, collaboration and team oriented skill sets.
