RSP 1013 - Respiratory Care Pharmacology


4 cr

A study of pharmacological principles and practices of respiratory care drugs, with emphasis on classification, routes of administration, dosages/calculations, and interaction of the autonomic nervous system. The student will explain the mode of action, clinical indications, dosages, hazards, and side effects of the following classifications of drugs: adrenergics, anticholinergics, xanthines, mucolytics, wetting agents, steroids, anti-asthmatic agents and decongestants. The student will explain the concept of conscious sedation, understand the general principles of pharmacology, and identify and define abbreviations and symbols used in respiratory care drug therapy.
