HIS 3550 - The Islamic World 3 cr
This course is a survey of the Islamic world from the age of Mohammed to modernity. Topics include the analysis of traditional society; the influence of the West; the rise of nationalism; autocracy; the Arab-Israeli dilemma; revolution and fundamentalism; modernization and social change; and the region’s geopolitical role in the contemporary world.
Prerequisites: Sophomore standing Offered: Fall, odd years This course fulfills the Humanistic Perspective general education requirement.
