HIS 2520 - Japanese Society and Culture 3 cr
This course offers a history of Japanese society from the late Edo period to the present day. It examines Japan’s cultural and social transformations during the 19th and 20th centuries as it transitioned from a feudal nation to an industrialized empire. Topics discussed in the course will include Japanese political culture, religion, traditional art forms, gender norms, and media.
