ANT 3830 - Writing Culture


1-6 cr

This course is designed to train students in the art and science of ethnographic writing. Students will review both classical and contemporary fieldwork techniques and ethnographic writing styles, applying their craft to their own analysis of a culture different from their own. Implicit in this endeavor is an understanding of participant observation, the art of interview, narrative analysis, kinship studies, sociolinguistics, and ethnomethodology.

Sophomore Standing
Offered: Spring, every other year
Notes: Immersive experiential learning, varies 2 weeks-one summer
A minimum of 3 credits must be taken to fulfill the Humanistic Perspective general education requirement.
