Between the years 1815 and 1860, a period of time that historians refer to as the Antebellum Era, the United States underwent dramatic and often divisive social, economic, and political change. This course will seek to understand this era with attention to such topics as slavery; industrialization; immigration; national expansion; abolitionism; religious revivalism, and the coming of the Civil War.
