MEC 4220 - Product Design & Production 3 cr This course focuses on product design, advanced manufacturing, and production processes. Topics include concurrent and reverse engineering methods; advanced metrology; automation in manufacturing; abrasive and grinding techniques; water jet machining; 3D printing; and other emerging methods. The student engages in a variety of individual and team-based projects that allow them to expand upon their prior manufacturing and materials processing knowledge and experience while developing marketable workforce skills in advanced manufacturing. As the final project for this course, the student designs, develops, manufactures, markets, and sells a consumer product with the goal of making a profit.
