MEC 1040 - Introduction to Materials Science & Engineering 3 cr This course introduces the nature and properties of materials that are used in engineering applications. Materials are studied from the perspective of properties, processing, and structure and how they’re interrelated. Topics common to all materials are covered, including crystalline structure, mechanical behavior, and property testing. Topics related to metals include defects, phase formation, heat treating, the steel system, and alloy systems. It also covers the properties and structure of ceramics, polymers, and composites.
Lecture/Lab: 2 hours of lecture, 3 hours of lab Prerequisite(s): PHY 1051 Typically offered: Fall, Spring Special fee: There is a fee associated with this course
