COM 2165 - History of Journalism GE 3 cr This course views American history through the window of journalism, especially during times of war and social change. Beginning with the Civil War, and including media coverage of the current conflicts, readings examining the way journalists have influenced the way readers, listeners, and viewers respond to life-changing events on the national stage and in their communities. Close attention is paid to evolving technology and the ever-changing definition of “objectivity”. Students will focus on historical turning points that tested the media’s role in a democracy.
