This course explores the social and political evolution of modern India from the British Empire to today. Special attention will be given to Gandhi’s leadership, the reforms of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, the rise of Bharatiya Janata Party, and India’s geopolitical role in the contemporary world. The use of memoirs and films will complement historical analysis.
