Class Standing/Membership

Policy Rationale 

Vermont State University (VTSU) recognizes that progression through a degree is measured in credits, not years. A clear definition of class standing/membership ensures clarity for length of time for degree completion as well as eligibility for certain opportunities such as internships and scholarships.

Policy 

Students are classified for academic class standing/membership based on cumulative college-level credits earned according to the following:

0-29.9 credits = First Year
30-59.9 credits = Sophomore
60-89.9 credits = Junior
90 or more credits = Senior

Responsibilities

Registrar:

Maintain accurate records of students’ earned credits and class standing.
