Policy Rationale
Vermont State University (VTSU) acknowledges that there are times when a member of the university or broader community wishes to learn the content of a class without earning a grade or credit.
Policy
Students may audit a course section with the approval of the course instructor if there is an available seat. Those auditing a course are not required to take examinations, prepare assignments, or participate in discussions and/or group work. No course grade or credit is conferred. Students auditing courses are encouraged to communicate at the beginning of the semester with their instructor about their learning goals and plan for approaching the course. Determined at the start of the semester, the amount and type of feedback and/or grading provided to an auditing student is at the discretion of the instructor.
After the add period , no change will be made either to allow credit for a course audit , or to change a regular course to the status of an audited course. No credit or grades are assigned for audited courses.
For the financial implications of auditing a course, please see the section on Tuition and Fees.
Learners aged 65 and older may take advantage of the Vermont State Colleges System’s tuition discount for students aged 65 and over.
