General Engineering Technology (AAS.GET)

Program Description 

Vermont State University’s Associate of Applied Science in General Engineering Technology is only open to employees in the Manufacturing Technician Apprentice Programs (currently, GE-Rutland, GS Precision, GW Plastics/Nolato, and Global Foundries). 

Graduates of this program are already employed by a variety of companies and industries seeking workforce development opportunities. The program is designed to provide students with flexible, interdisciplinary educational opportunities, with a focus on technology and career-oriented coursework.

Program Outcomes 

  1. Apply knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve well-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline.  

  1. Design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the engineering design of systems, components, or processes appropriate to the discipline. 

  1. Apply written, oral, and graphical communication in well-defined technical and nontechnical environments and identify and use appropriate technical literature. 

  1. Function effectively as a member of a technical team. 

Program Core


Note: This is only one example of a curriculum core for a program focused on mechanical engineering and manufacturing technology. Other programs may focus on electrical and electronics engineering technology. A different curriculum is developed for each sponsoring company; thus, the details of the program core will vary from one program iteration to another.

Program Electives


Take 4-6 credits of any electives.

To obtain a degree, students must fulfill the major-specific requirements as well as satisfy all other Degree Requirements  including the General Education Requirements .
